Game of Thrones Season 2 Quick Thoughts

Just finished S2 of Game of Thrones. I enjoyed it. Even though it took me 3 episodes to actually start enjoy it!

Strong points was the "little" mans relationship with the whore. (Hey, listen...I can't follow this fucking show, with its millions of characters and their fucking Shakespeare language! This is why I don't know their names and why it takes me a few episodes to get in it.)

Back to the relationship, first moment that made me tear up was when the Dinklage was on his knees professing his love to the whore. That vulnerability, which hasn't been shown before, was just amazing! Especially after the fact that the queen-bitch had appeared to have found out and tortured Dinklage's whore.

2nd moment that made me tear up was again the same relationship, when Dinklage broke down after his woman (Ill stop 'whore' until I find out her name.) stuck by him. Everything from the unmasking of his wound, amazingly disgusting!, and her reminding him of the promises he made to her, "You have a shit memory! You belong to me.". Or along those lines. Great scene!

3rd moment, when the two young Winterfeld boys met up with the grey robe, mentor old-man. That was touching, more so of my thoughts of the boys watching someone who has looked over them their whole lives bleeding to death, And having to leave him to die. I would have loved to see the younger brother freaking out more, even the older one. Anyway, the scene was apt.

GoT, I don't see why people are going crazy for it. Amazing casting, near faultless acting, sexy Khaleesi (the only character name I know, HaHa!) and great production value, but there's something that doesn't make want to really find out what happens in the next episode. Unlike 'Breaking Bad', 'The Wire' or even 'Homeland' I'm not depressed that I have to wait for the next episode.

About to start season 3. People are going super duper insane for this season. Will see!

Here's my completed version of the previous post.

okay, 'The Shining'. 1980. When like me, you delve deeper into the world of American film and tv, certain film names and images pop up to me and time again.

Ofcourse, Jack Nicholson's wide sadistic smiling face pressing through a large crack in a door is one of them. And to actually watch it was something special.

This film has been hailed as horror classic (or a thriller. Decide for yourself, shit!). Thinking about it, it doesn't have a maniac killer, no demons, no ghosts. Its just a man. Yeah! A man. Ok..a weird man, but a man nonetheless. Which makes this film even greater.

As I was watching the film, I kept on thinking, "Man, this scene is taking forever. Be gone, scene. Be gone!" But. Every time a scene finishes I think, "Ok. That was actually good." Seems like Kubrick takes his sweet time to set up a scene and with my 3 second attention span each scene felt painful. But each scene had a good conclusion. Slow build up, great conclusion. To make such a gripping film with so little is mind boggling.

A few things struck me whilst watching the film.

The first is a striking resemblance to Jurassic Park (probably my favourite film of all time). The scene towards the end where the little boy, Timmy is limping across the kitchen running away from a velociraptor, came to mind when Jack is also shown limping across the kitchen in Shining.

The second is when the boy, in The Shining, hides in cabinet in kitchen. Ofcourse, that me reminded of the scene JP when Lex struggled to close a kitchen cabinet door before another velociraptor tried to get at her.

The third is that shot of Jack in which the camera is on the ground looking up at him as he's hobbling along looking for his target. This bore so much resemblance to 'No Country's' antagonist Anton Chigurgh. Another image that reminded me of Chigurgh is when Jack is shown limping through the maze, that silhouette of the jeans, jacket and rounded hair.

Just my observations. That's my 'quick' take on the Shining. Genius film from Kubrick!
